Lost: A Son’s Remarkable Search for his Father

I have a new feature story in this week’s Boston Globe Magazine. It’s about a Navy fighter pilot named Jeff Cathey, and his efforts to discover the site of the 1957 plane crash that killed his father. It took over four years, squads of Vermont volunteers roaming the Green Mountains, the analysis of the local plane crash expert, and, finally, dousing (yes, searching for hidden items with sticks) by a man who last walked the site as a 12 year old boy, when his father took him to help recover the bodies.

My thanks to Bill Powers, Brian Lindner, and the especially the Cathey family, for trusting me with this amazing story.
